The IATA Annual General Meeting (AGM) and World Air Transport Summit is the world's largest gathering of airline leaders. The 79th AGM and World Air Transport Summit, will be held in Istanbul, Türkiye, 4-6 June 2023, hosted by Pegasus Airlines and co-hosted by AnadoluJet.
This year's highlights
The recovery from the pandemic continues at pace and we are optimistic about our industry’s prospects. The level of economic and geopolitical uncertainty is, however, significant. Expectations to demonstrate progress toward our net zero carbon emissions by 2050 goal are high. And the need for safe, efficient and reliable global air connectivity has been made clear by passengers and shippers.
We are also very conscious of the earthquake that struck southern Turkey and parts of Syria earlier this year. Friends and colleagues in the region are an inspiration as they remain resilient, determined and welcoming in the face of great challenges. Although far from the areas affected, meeting in Istanbul will be an opportunity to recognize aviation’s vital support for relief and recovery efforts.
Türkiye and aviation
Istanbul’s historic role as a pivot between East and West has been reimagined for the modern age with its role as an aviation hub and global connector. Through a visionary strategy, Türkiye has been investing in state-of-the-art aviation infrastructure to allow its innovative, high-quality airlines to grow. Allied to that, Türkiye’s rich history, natural wonders and vigorous economy make it a tourism and business destination in its own right. It all adds to up making Istanbul the perfect host city for the world’s largest gathering of airline leaders to focus on the major economic, technological and sustainability challenges facing aviation today.
